British Sign Language

Introduction

This aims to develop an ability to communicate with deaf people in BSL on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use, such as personal information, finger spelling, numbers, colours, weather, transport, directions, interests, food and drink. This course is suitable for learners with no previous knowledge of BSL.

Fees for 2020/2021

  • Full fee £67 per term or
  • Concessionary fee £52 per term
  • Accreditation fee applicable

Level 1

This course is 66 hours over 3 terms and is designed for learners who wish to develop suitable and sufficient skills to communicate with deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on everyday topics. It is accredited by iBSL.

The IBSL Level 1 Award in British Sign Language Studies consists of 3 mandatory units. It is one of a range of qualifications that have been developed to provide stepping stones in a pathway that could ultimately lead towards qualified sign language interpreter status, or a career working with deaf people in situations where the use of sign language is an everyday communication tool.

  • Full fee £73.70 per term or
  • Concessionary fee £57.20 per term
  • Accreditation fee – £120 payable in 3 instalments

Level 2

This qualification aims to further learners’ experiences and development in communication through British Sign Language (BSL) with Deaf people on everyday topics involving social life and at work, school or college.

A Level 2 course will enable development in functional BSL communication in more depth than at Level 1, requiring a wider grasp of grammar to cope with some non-routine language exchanges.

  • Accreditation fee – £165 payable in 3 instalments

CV and Interview Skills

This course will help you to identify what employers are looking for, learn how to structure a great CV and practice your interview skills.
